ABWW Stereotype Buster of the Day Roseanne Barr

She’s is loud, fat and can’t keep a job. Her daughter got pregnant out of wedlock and her sister’s a single mother. Her husband is a good hardworking man, but she peppers him with demands. Sounds like a black woman? WRONG, it’s Roseann Connor. The Roseanne show was one of the most popular shows of the 1990’s and can still be seen daily on Nick at Night. Roseanne’s personal life is more dramatic than her T.V. persona. She dropped out of high school when she was 17 years old. After a car accident, she was admitted to a mental institution, claiming she was having nightmares and memory loss. Soon after she left the institution, she gave birth to her first daughter, Brandi Brown, and gave her up for adoption. She began working at a restaurant as a dishwasher and waitress, before turning to comedy. She has been married and divorced three times and has been in numerous court battles with her siblings due to her allegation that she, as well as her siblings, had been physically and sexually abused as a child. After nine years of Roseanne, she had a failed talk show host and current lives with her children in California. Thanks Roseanne, for the years of laughter and showing us what white women are like when they are not on the pedestal.
